Food Review: High Point Bagels

When residents of the Northeast venture down South during the winter months, it can feel like stepping into a completely different world—a warm, welcoming escape from the chilly temperatures up north.

For many, it’s like Disneyland, a place full of sunshine, friendly faces, and a slower pace of life. But despite the southern hospitality, and the charm of a new environment, there are always two things that seem to be missing.

Pizza and Bagels.

Authentic NY bagels

Some believe it’s the water, others claim it’s a special touch, a secret skill passed down through years of experience in the business. Regardless, one thing is for sure, finding a bagel in the South that truly compares to those iconic bagels from the Northeast has always been a challenge.

But I think that might have changed.

High Point Bagels, located just minutes from High Point University’s campus, is quickly becoming a favorite among students from the Northeast who are craving that familiar taste of home. It’s not just another bagel shop; it’s a piece of New York brought right to the heart of the Triad.

According to the company's website, High Point Bagels prides itself on bringing the "authentic New York Bagel" to North Carolina. Whether it's the perfect chewiness, the golden brown crust, or the flavors that hit just right, these bagels are making waves and filling a void many didn't even realize they had. For students who’ve spent years enjoying bagels in places like Brooklyn or Manhattan, this shop offers that taste of perfection, right in their own backyard.

It’s a welcome taste of home, and it’s quickly becoming a beloved spot for locals and students alike. So, if you're in the area, it might just be time to see for yourself what all the hype is about.

From the outside it doesn't look like anything special but just wait till you step inside, the smell, hospitality and overall bagel taste will have you coming back!

"The bagels remind me of home...it's hard to find things like that here" said Jillian Getlik a sophomore from New York.

"The bagels taste just like bagels from New Jersey reminding me of home" said Shaelyn Auer a sophomore from New Jersey

Owner and founder, Mat Greenberg grew up on Long Island, but since moving to High Point has always realized a lack in the quality of bagels right here and thats when he knew he needed to step in.

The High Point Bagels mission is simple, "to provide the freshest most authentic bagels possible"
